Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."
Luke 2:1-4 "In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David."
It amazes when I realize how many miracles exist in the Bible so that all God's prophesies may be fulfilled. It's as though they are hidden, tucked away just waiting for us to uncover and be amazed. I wish I knew how many prophesies there were about our Saviours birth, and the number of miracles that occurred so that every one of them would be fulfilled.
It struck me listening to a sermon today, God used a census issued for the FIRST time ever to get the mother of the Saviour to Bethlehem, the city of David. In obedience to a pagan dictator, under a corrupt, Roman government the Jews hated, Joseph and his betrothed wife (who was NINE months pregnant) traveled EIGHTY miles, because it just so happened Joseph "belonged to the house and line of David" Luke 2:4. God promised the Saviour would be born in Bethlehem, and he used a pagan governor to make that happen. What were the chances that this dictator would come into office and decide he needed to count these people at this particular time? Pretty amazing isn't it. And of course the selection and Mary and Joseph fulfills multiple prophesies as far as geneology goes. I hope I get to learn much more about them.
